Message from Kris Ramachandran:
It has given me great personal joy to contribute to BITS in a small way by instituting the Faculty Excellence Award. The Vision 2020-Mission 2012 Project, and its promise "Leadership Through Excellence” were the triggers and the motivation. In the early days of the Project, over eighteen months ago, ‘Excellence’ stood out as the one word that best described the journey we were undertaking. It became self-evident that faculty excellence, excellence in curriculum and pedagogy, and excellence in research, were three of the six pillars that BITS must build on if it is to aspire for a global reputation. BITS has always had, and continues to have some excellent faculty, and recognition is a must. Recognition of excellence in teaching, pedagogy, and research should serve as a motivator to all young faculty at BITS: that excelling has its own reward; that competing with one’s own high standards is the best form of competition; and that excellence is always recognised. It is a matter of great pride and delight that Prof. N.N. Sharma has been selected for the First Award, and I am sure the entire BITS community will join in congratulating him.
