Vinod Puri (’60) - Chairman, BITSAA Global Meet

Vinod Puri, President of BITSAA – Delhi Chapter, was born in the Golden Temple city of Amritsar. He joined Birla Engineering College in 1960 and completed his graduation in Electrical Engineering in December 1964. He setup his own Company at New Delhi in 1966. Vipko Engineers was specializing in installation and repair of high end electronic equipment imported by embassies and expats. In 1971, the company rose to a consultant, designer and installer of electrical and Air Conditioning plant Systems in India and Nepal. Since 1971, he has been providing world class consultation, operation and maintenance of various utilities involved in embassies and consulates. In his latest venture he is also active in consulting and guiding through his experience and vision AVP Solutions, a Digital Surveillance and Home/Commercial Automation Enterprise with an aim to explore technologies to make our lives greener and secured. Member of Freemasonry, an international fraternal and charitable organization and holds the rank of Past Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of India and the rank of Honorary Assistant Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mauritius. Association with BITSAA DELHI CHAPTER goes back to 1970 and since then he has been associated being Honorary Secretary and President for many years.

CSG is a successful entrepreneur and runs Goel Engineers (India) (www.goelka.com) which is a "Perforation specialist" at New Delhi. He graduated from BITS Pilani in 1979 with a Masters in Management Sciences Degree. He has been actively participating in community building activities since his BITS, Pilani days. He was the Treasurer of BITSAA Delhi Chapter for the last 25 years & currently he is now Secretary. He has now been given responsibility as CEO of the first BITS Pilani Alumni Global Meet in 2011 at New Delhi as he is regarded as excellent organizer with several "Golden Jubilee Meets" under his belt. He has wide network of friends in industry, professionals, bureaucracy and politics. CSG has been President of Agrawal Sabha of Green Park, General Secretary of Green Park Association in New Delhi. Currently, he is National Vice President, Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME) - a national body of small & medium industries. (www.fisme.org.in). CS comes from a distinguished family of Hodel, Haryana. His grandfather has been a famous Freedom Fighter- Shri Murli Dhar Goel, who was regarded as an engineering genius having gained expertise in producing ammunition for Indian freedom fighters.

Sarath is an independent Software Consultant providing technology services to Insurance and Finance companies. He served as a Product Development Architect at Netkey (Kiosk and Digital Signage Solutions provider), SupplyInsight (RFID Solutions provider) and Metaserver (Business Process Workflow Middleware Provider). His expertise includes providing Vision and outlining Technology Roadmap for complex products and applications. He graduated from BITS, Pilani in 1998 with a B.E. in Computer Science and M.Sc in Biological Sciences. Sarath holds a Masters degree in Computer Science at University of Denver, Colorado, USA in 2000. He lives in CT, USA with his wife (Meghna) and son (Yug Sai). His passions include playing VolleyBall, Cricket, Tennis and Table Tennis
 
Abhisheak Iyer (’02) - President, BITSAA Global Meet

Abhisheak K. Iyer graduated from BITS in 2006 with a B.E.(Hons.) Computer Science. At BITS, he was actively involved with the Computer Science Association. Post BITS, he worked for Oracle India Pvt. Ltd. in Bangalore in the Secure Enterprise Search Team for a year. Following a brief stint at Oracle, he joined Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue M.S. in Computer Science. During his M.S., he was actively involved with Computing for Good (C4G) group which works on projects that makes the lives of the underserved better. His work on Web Based System for Homeless Shelters fetched him the 2009 Donald V. Jackson fellowship presented to the Best Well Rounded student in Computer Science. He has currently (May'09) graduated from Georgia Tech and will join Epic Systems in Madison, WI as a Software Developer. In his spare time, he likes playing cricket, listening to music and putting lachcha with friends.

I am Satish Polisetti (aka sat~p - hmm, people seldom call me this, but etiquette dictates everyone to have a BITSian name), from the ebullient batch of 2002. I graduated with a Dual Degree in Electrical & Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. I completed my semester long internships in Qualcomm-Bangalore, Cypress - San Jose, and currently employed with Infineon Technologies as an Engineer, in the Silicon Plateau of India. At Pilani, my leadership positions include Joint Coordinator for Mechanical Association, Executive Committee Member of Recreational Activity Forum and Member, Department of Sponsorship & Marketing in the initial years. I voluntarily presented few BITS branding lectures to aspirants at my +2 college. But the true ardor of "Giving back to BITS” nurtured during my term as Joint Editor for BITSAA Annual Year Book, Batch 2002, when I realized publishing and writing were channels to reach the largest alumni community with prospective objectives of BITSAA. As Associate Editor, Sandpaper 2.0, am associated with several activities such as producing articles, designing cover pages, drafting cover stories, editing stuff, and I love doing them. In addition, am also handling bunch of BITSAA Newsletter tasks.

Vijay Sharma ('06) is currently pursuing his MSc. (Hons.) in Chemistry at BITS, Pilani. He is an enthusiastic, motivated and hard working guy who’s been at the core of all student related activities on campus as the President of the Students Union. Vijay was instrumental in taking APOGEE to a level never seen before by taking initiatives like organizing high quality off-campus(around 12 across India) and on-campus workshops, inviting speakers like Jimmy Wales, Michael Cremo, Dr. SP Kothari, SK Jain, Dilip Chhabria, John C. Mather and Michael Hogedel,also getting an army DRDO exhibit of 3 Tanks from Hisar during APOGEE’09 and getting ISO 9001:2008 certification for APOGEE as well.He was involved in initiating Online Notices on campus with major help from SDET. He is also a very active member of the Department of Controlz. A passionate football lover, he is one of Manchester United’s biggest fans. The BITS Premier League is also his brainchild, he has been associated with indianfootball.com for over 3years now, in his bid to spread awareness and promote Indian football.His academic interests include Indian Development,Public Policies,Economics & Organizational Behaviour.

Nakul (aka jnacool) is a Founder at Vita Beans Neural Solutions, a startup which powers latest neuro-psychology framework to understand people and how they think. He had won previously, at Eureka '08, IIT Bombay and Conquest 2008, BITS Pilani ( Business plan competitions) with the same idea. At BITS, Nakul lead the student team at Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL), and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He is a regular trekker, traveler and loves listening to Kishore Kumar and Beatles.

He founded a boutique HR Consulting firm, Corporate Insight in 1992 and is continuing as CEO & Managing Director of the Company. Corporate Insight provides Total HR Solutions to the global & national companies including 30 of the Fortune Five Hundred companies in Search & Selection, Training & Development, Waste Minimisation, H R Audits, etc. He is an Accredited Trainer & International Expert in Waste-Minimisation for UNIDO & UNEP since 1994. He has the distinction of training over 10,000 professionals across the globe. He has also been associated with BITSAA Delhi since 1988 and was Honorary Secretary from 1994 to 1995 & from 1996 till 1998 and then from 2002 to 2004. He is also an active member of CII.

Hareish is Vice President with Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. and heads Sales for India and APAC countries. He had joined Newgen as head of R&D. Under his leadership, his team constantly delivered innovative products and prepared the company for long-term Intellectual Property-based business strategy. Later as head of Global Marketing, he co-strategized and supported multi-country strategy that led the company to have large customer base (more than 700 deployments) in 35+ countries. Before joining Newgen, Hareish was on the faculty of BITS-Pilani for two and half years. Hareish is MBA (Master in Management) from Asian Institute of Management (AIM)-Manila and Computer Engineering graduate from BITS-Pilani. He is the present Secretary of the AIM Alumni Association, Delhi Chapter, and Executive Committee member of BITSAA, Delhi Chapter. With 20+ years of professional experience across the value chain of the IT industry, Hareish holds unique insights and perspectives on the industry’s future growth. He has also authored columns for several leading business publications.

Atul Bhargava, Chief Technology Officer, ORG Group Atul is a Telecom/ IT professional with BE(Hons.) in EEE from B.I.T.S., Pilani, India and MBA in Strategy and Marketing from MDI, Gurgaon, India. He has 25+ years of highly successful experience in some of the leading Telecom/ IT companies of India in Strategy Planning and Execution, Pre-Sales, Sales, Operations/ Global Program/ Project Management, Technology Management and Research & Development. He has traveled extensively in APAC, Middle East and Africa. His core areas of interest includes strategy, technology and designing and architecting large scale complex solutions. He is very meticulous with execution work and has executed successfully some of the largest and most complex mission critical telecom and IT projects. With 25+ years of professional experience across multiple small and large organizations in the Telecom and IT industries, Atul holds unique knowledge of the industry. Currently he is looking forward to join a group of associates from British Telecom and Merrill Lynch to start a Blue Ocean venture in mobile telecom data off-loading services space. His venture has already received venture funding from US. The tie-ups with the leading telecom operators in India are already in place and the venture is likely to take-off in a big way in this year.

I have 15 years of experience in Quality Assurance & Control, Software process management, Project Management and Software Development. I have been instrumental at Headstrong in driving the Global Process definition project. I am working as Head of Global SEPG function at Headstrong and am responsible for driving the process improvement initiatives at Headstrong. Prior to this, at Perot Systems I was involved in Quality initiatives like CMMI, ISO and BS7799 certifications. I have played a key role as Program Manager in the CMMI v1.2 level 5 journey at Perot Systems. I was also one of the ATMs during the level 5 assessment. I am CSQA and ITIL foundation certified. I am a certified Internal Quality Auditor and have been regularly conducting Internal Audits. I have been involved in project planning, people management, estimation and have been regularly conducting trainings on various Quality aspects. I have received Performance Awards under different categories and my major strengths include innovation, strong inter-personal skills, cross-cultural sensitivity and good communication skills.

Rishabh is a senior Economics/Civil undergraduate at Pilani. He is an active member of CEL where he is involved with the Rural Entrepreneurship Division. Inquizzitive by nature, he has been a president at the English Language Activities Society, one of his key achievements was to make OHT an open quiz. He also occasionally lends his services to the English Drama Club for a cameo or two. He is currently the Head of Communications at Grassroutes, a fellowship program that sends youth on road trips where they are tied up with NGOs to drive social change. His interests lie in sustainable enterprises, education, developmental economics and how the web can be used to drive social change. He is one of only 3 Asian staff writers on Nextbillion, Acumen Fund's blog on development through enterprise and contributes regularly to some of the top blogs on sustainable enterprises and rural development. He was also one of the few Indians to attend the COP 15 in Copenhagen and one of the only 3 Indians to attend the 13th World Business Dialogue held at the University of Cologne.

He has been a part of the Department of Sponsorship & Marketing and was the CoStAAn for Apogee’09 wherein he led his team through a difficult economic environment towards a 90% yoy increase in the sponsorship budget. Apart from BITS, Pallav has been an intern at ST Microelectronics, McKinsey & Company and a volunteer with Sankalp, an NGO. He has a keen interest in cinema and music, is an avid reader and a budding guitarist.

Kaushik (06A2, aka KK) is a civil engineer from the Pilani campus. Given his interest and knowledge in finance, he is more comfortable crunching numbers than building bridges. Soon, he'll be working for Exxon Mobil as a financial analyst. At BITS, he was the coordinator of Dept of Theater for OASIS 09. Because of his superhuman efforts and indomitable spirit, he is now also called Superman. He follows football (and Man Utd) so closely and discusses it in such an erudite fashion that his friends believe he will be the Man Utd coach in his next life.

He is currently pursuing his Masters in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University specializing in Computer Architecture and Systems software. At BITS, he was primarily involved with the Instrumentation Forum and he served as the Joint Co-ord during Apogee 2008. He was also a part of the Instru Forum’s IMAGE Magazine Editorial Team for the year 2008. His interests include playing table tennis (thanks to the bhawan common room) and recently cooking (grad student life!)

He served as the Coordinator for Department of Controls - Quark 2010, the Annual Innovation Festival of BITS - Pilani, Goa Campus. He was also involved in the Department of Finance & Asset Management as a core member and is the Public Relations Manager for MATRIX, a BITS initiated platform for Community Development through interactive discussions. Swetansu was instrumental in organizing the TEDxBITSGoa 2010 Conference as its co-curator along with Siva Cotipalli ('97 Batch), which featured around 25 thinkers and doers of 21st Century from India & abroad, presenting their ideas in multidisciplinary fields. He has great interest in the field of Finance, Economics & Management and has been pursuing studies to develop a sustainable Private-Public-People Partnership model for the population at the Bottom of the Pyramid.

To most people, Nivy tends to summarize her Pilani life as very little A8, a lot of ‘Ragamalika’ and multiple experiments with photography, stage-décor and event management. She graduated from Pilani in 2007 with a Bachelors degree in Instrumentation Engineering. However, her intent was to either pursue arts or to work in the field of marketing, advertising and problem solving. Today, she thinks that her life seems like a more organized extension of all of the above. She works as a marketing analyst and supports strategic marketing decisions for banks in the Mid-West region. She continues to pursue dance and has taken up photography and event management much more seriously. Someday, Nivy hopes to build and run a business where she’ll be her own boss and can put all of her passions to good use!!

As the core member of the Department of Sponsorship and Marketing and a member of the Department of Publicity, she was involved in organizing the college fests. She served as a member of the Constitution Making Body of the Goa campus in which her primary role was to create a definite structure for the festival charters. Bharath graduated from BITS, Pilani - Goa campus in 2009 with a B.E. (Hons.) Electrical & Electronics and is currently a graduate student in Electrical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. In BITS, he was actively involved with the Dramatics club of which he was a founding member and treasurer. He has also been a core member of the Dept. of Publicity and Public relations and an event manager for Waves. But his most prized achievement, he feels is coining the name of Goa campus's tech fest 'QUARK'. Presently he volunteers for Association for India’s Development (AID) and is the secretary for the AID Penn State team that raised over 25,000$ for various projects in India. Apart from theatre and volunteering, he is passionate about traveling and visiting places. He also loves reading and watching Asian books and movies

Chandra Prakash aka CP is currently pursuing MMath in Computer Science from University of Waterloo, Canada. He graudated with B.E.(Hons.) Computer Science from BITS Pilani in 2006 after which he worked at Yahoo! in Bangalore for three years in Yahoo! Search Group. Back in BITS, CP was secretary of Cultural Association of Rajasthan (Marudhara) during 2004-2005. He was also involved with Hindi Press Club. He loves traveling to new places, spending time with family and friends, listening to music and working out in the gym.

Gaurav is currently working on researching and designing clinical data and commercial information management products for the healthcare industry. He is also serving an executive role in a startup venture that is looking at deploying a wide-scale wireless IP surveillance system for the home and small business markets. In the past, he has been involved in projects that span several domains including sound and music technology, supply chain and inventory management and was a key founding member of an event management group, directing its overall inception and its creative arm.

Yogesh Hooda is currently working as a research assistant at Terrence Donnelly CCBR, University of Toronto. With a dual degree in Computer Science and Biology, he wants to pursue a PhD in Protein Biology in future. At BITS, he was a member of Department of PEP and part of the core team for organizing Guest Lectures at APOGEE. He was also the CoSSAcn of BOSM-SPONZ in his junior year. He loves listening to random music artists and watching marathon sessions of sitcoms.

Mani Kiran currently is a graduate student at University of Southern California in Electrical Department and specializing in Signal/Image Processing, Speech Recognition and Natural Language Processing. He graduated from Bits-Pilani, Goa campus in 2005 with Electronics and Instrumentation degree. At Bits, He was the founding member and the first coordinator of the Career Development Cell shaping it for the best interests of all students in Goa campus. He was also an active participant of ENIGMA (E&I assoc). Kiran served as the team leader of Web-Designing group (2006&2007), Working committee member, News letter and Magazine committee member (2006, 2007 & 2008) for ENIGMA. His hobbies are playing Table Tennis and visiting new places
 
Alok Soni (’07) - Team Leader, Outreach & Marketing, BITSAA Global Meet

Alok has gleefully finished three years in BITS Pilani while pursuing M.Sc.(hons)Chemistry + B.E.(hons)Civil. He has contributed his bit to a variety of activities on campus, to quote a few will be, as Secretary, Hindi Press Club; Health Coordinator, NSS-BITS Pilani; is Joint Coordinator, Wall Street Club (India’s first Student Investment Club), and a senior member in Photography Club. He simply loves interacting with people & also went for the elections in his college. He’s keen of learning about various cultures across the country & globe. Reading part is a bit constrained for him, with choice for only the stuff about prominent business-men & entrepreneurs. He believes in serving people by all means and is supportive to entrepreneurship rather than philanthropy in this regard. Since recent past, he has been trying his hands on rural BPO’s, micro-finance and rural marketing. Well wisher of everyone around him!!!
 
Vivek Krishnan (’05) - Coordinator, Battle of Brain of BITS, BITSAA Global Meet

Vivek Krishnan graduated from Pilani in 2010. During his five years in Pilani, he discovered the lost hostel of Rana Pratap and mapped the treacherous forest-lawns behind the Saraswati Temple, while also juggling a dual degree in physics and mechanical engineering. In his spare time, he is a sculptor. Among his notable works are the Sky Man, reportedly modeled after himself. A man of extreme beliefs, he believes Aquafina flushes out the competition from Kinley, Maaza beats Slice to a pulp and Perk crushes Munch like the wafer that it is. An accomplished player of both rugby and poke, he made them the official sports of Backstage during his Stuccanship. Portrayed the role of one end of a pendulum in a play in 2007.
 
Sachin Jain (’07) - Team Leader, Sponsorship, BITSAA Global Meet

Sachin Jain is currently pursuing his B.E. in EEE at the Pilani campus. Sachin is the founder and patriarch of BITSMUN Society at Pilani, which conducts the largest event of its kind in the country. Under Sachin’s leadership the society has raised the bar for all events by receiving participation from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Dubai, UK, Japan and Australia in its first two years. Sachin spearheaded the sponsorship team and generated sponsorship to the tune of 10 lakhs in the first year itself. Sachin is an avid quizzer and state level chess player, and has a passion for innovation and social entrepreneurship. He was recently a Semi-Finalist at the Wake Forest Business Plan Competition in USA and Asia Finalist at Global Social Ventures Competition at ISB, Hyderabad.

Lakshmi Rao is a student of the 2008 batch of BITS Pilani pursuing Chemical Engineering. She is an active member of the Mime Club of BITS which performs in the Inaugral ceremony of Oasis and Mithali during APOGEE. She is also a part of the BITS Debating Society (Symposiarch) and has participated in inter/intra college debates. She was on the editorial team of MUSINGS 2010 ( a book which is released by the Languages Group of BITS Pilani). She resides in Chennai and is a hard core fan of idly, dosa and Indian authors

Laveena is currently pursuing B.E (hons.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering(EEE) at the Goa campus. She has been an active member of C.E.L, Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, and the Quark Controls team since her first year. She has also served as an Event Manager in the Corporate category in Quark'10. Laveena is also a Basketball lover and has been a part of the Girls bsaketball team of Bits Goa in Spree 2010. In her spare time, she loves music and reading books related to psychology. Swimming and Watching movies are her other interests

Ananya Das (’08) is currently pursuing her dual degree in M.Sc(Hons) Economics and B.E. (Hons) in Computer Science from BITS Pilani. She has been actively involved in OASIS and APOGEE as a core member of the Department of Controlz. Currently captaining the Table Tennis team, she likes to find peace in everything around her. Apart from juggling with colours on the palette and elsewhere, she loves reading and listening to Spanish guitar. She is presently involved in the functioning of the Indian Outreach and Logistics Team for the BITSAA Global Meet

An aspiring financier trapped in the body of a mechanical engineering undergrad who currently works with the BGM-2011 tech team to maintain the back-end to the event's website. Anirudh of the BITS Pilani batch of 2008, formerly a member of CCTV, BITS' tech department, and the Creative Activities Club, spends his free time thinking up new projects for the team behind the BITSFOSS (BITS Free & Open Source Software) Initiative to undertake. He also enjoys reading about notable personalities in high finance.
