'Let's Promote BITS-Pilani' initiative, now in its Phase-3, started last year as a casual discussion in BITSAA mailers amidst growing concerns on the popularity of BITS among the student community. We (the students and alumni) wanted BITS and all its campuses to be the first choice for an engineering and science aspirant. Besides this, the unique features and flexibilities offered at BITS-Pilani are often not clear to many students who want to shape their future at BITS campuses.
That's when we decided to start an initiative - 'Let's Promote BITS-Pilani' (LPBP). The aim of this initiative is to get the brightest minds of India to BITS campuses and ensure that awareness is generated. Armed with a dedicated team of enthused alumni and students, we started preparing the relevant material for the sessions which included presentation slides, campus virtual tours, FAQ documents, and important information dossiers etc, all of which were duly approved by BITS authorities for correctness of content. The first experimental information session held at Hyderabad received a huge response with more than 200 students participating in the session. Then, during the Phase-I of LPBP, over 50 on-campus students of BITS covered 7000+ school students across India by taking interactive information sessions on BITS. The next Phase motivated us further when ex-BITSians spared time out of their busy professional and academic lives to go back to their schools across India and took a number of information sessions. All these sessions were very well received by the students, faculty and on numerous occasions, by the parents of aspirants who attended keenly. All of the responses, without exception, underlined the growing need for more such awareness sessions and appreciated the efforts taken by the BITS students as well as alumni to give first hand information to the aspirants to make a correct decision on how they want to spend undergraduate - the most important phase of their higher education. The fact that this entire nationwide exercise is being run totally out of personal interest of BITSian alums spread across multiple geographies like California, Los Angeles, Bangalore, New Delhi etc and enthusiastic BITS students from Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad and Dubai campuses, without any role being played by the BITS-Pilani authorities, instilled the much-pondered-over feeling of genuineness of the information that was provided in these sessions. This summer, a total of about 250 odd students from BITS campuses are going back to schools all over India to tell enthusiastic aspirants the BITS-Pilani story. And with them, they will not only carry their first hand experiences of BITSian life, but they will let school students know the unique flexibilities and modularity that BITS has to offer to them, the state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities that BITS campuses boast of, the one-of-its-kind industry linkage programme that sets BITS apart from other universities, a live glimpse of the various BITS campuses and the life filled with tremendous options BITSians see after graduating from BITS-Pilani. All, with a single aim, i.e. to make students better aware of the unique education system BITS-Pilani is built upon. Coupled with this, they will be guiding their juniors in making correct discipline and career decisions based on their interests once they are ready to venture out.
Our aim is to reach close to 60,000 students across 200 schools and we can't do it without your help. We are looking for volunteers who will act as ambassadors for BITS-Pilani to various schools and colleges. These dedicated volunteers will take info sessions on BITS-Pilani across the nation in various schools and colleges. Are you game for it?
