Project Description

* Aims to provide knowledge connectivity to the villages around Pilani and to use the power of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for the educational, technical, social and economic empowerment of the rural citizens
* After identifying the needs of the villagers through extensive surveys, the first Village Knowledge Center Vivekananda Gramin Gyan Kendra was established at Dhandar, a village 8 KM away from Pilani in September of 2005. The Village Knowledge Center has been equipped with a library of 350 books, a radio, and a computer system. The knowledge center has been running successfully with good participation from the villagers
* A second Village Knowledge Center has been established in Raila, a village 5KM away from Pilani in April of 2006
* Total funds raised and used for equipping these knowledge centers thus far is Rs. 95,000
* This project has been adopted by MYINDIA, a voluntary organization setup by students at BITS Pilani with a vision of a Developed India and particular focus on education and rural development
