Hyderabad Campus celebrated its annual fest, the aptly named ‘Pearl’, from Feb
16-19 2012. This year’s version was bigger and better than ever before, and
raised the bar of standards to an entirely new level. The theme was 2-D gaming,
and Mario and Pac man helped recreate an atmosphere of nostalgia. The
inauguration took place on 16 Feb, and this was followed by a melodious
performance by Ghatam Karthik and his troupe.
This set the tone for three days of total enjoyment.
Day 1 saw a host of exciting events, among which the classical dance solo stood
out as truly memorable. As the graceful dancers paid tribute to our glorious
culture, the audience watched them spellbound. The highlight of this day was a
rocking Benny Dayal show in the evening. The enthusiasm in the air was
infectious and nobody could help screaming and shouting for their favourite
2 saw a number of technical events being hosted in addition to the cultural
ones. People came from colleges across India to participate in the paper
presentation competitions conducted by the various departments of BPHC. The
cultural events saw highly enthusiastic participation, as well. Metal
enthusiasts had a great evening with Belgian band Thurisaz.
Pearl reached a crescendo on DAY 3, 19th
Feb, 2012. There were events galore, and everyone was in a heady mood. The
Robowars event was the easily the highlight of all the technical events,
managing to leave the audience enthralled. The hovercraft event was equally
good .There were classical music contests and western group dance events, both
of which managed to pep up spirits. For the social service enthusiasts,
Pratyaya was a NIRMAAN event that saw papers being presented on a range of
socially relevant topics. People spent an inspired afternoon in the ‘ASPIRE’
event conducted by CEL. Many eminent speakers shared their experiences with the
audience, and Swami Bodhamayanand was exceptional. Uplifting and inspirational,
his talk was truly of tremendous value. An ex-Dean of ISB was also one of the
speakers, and his talk on the options available to students after graduation
was incisive and insightful.
After a hard day’s work, people got ready
to party. The fashion show, Glitterati, started and ended before people realised!
And then it was time for the grand finale.
Along came Ela Rose and David Deejay with their mind-blowing show. She sang and
he spun, and they crowd danced itself into a frenzy. When it was time to say
goodnight and goodbye, there was an eerie unreal feeling. PEARL 2012 was an incredible
success that created an indelible impact on everyone’s minds.
