Required : High Quality Camera for Student Union to cover events

Posted By Administration, Sunday, February 07, 2010
Aim
To get a high quality camera for the Student’s Union (Dept of CCTV) to cover various events in the campus.

Motivation
The Dept. of CCTV currently covers all major events during the college festivals like Oasis and Apogee. Events like Rocktaves, Fash-p, Razmattazz, Mithali, Prof Shows, inauguration ceremony, closing ceremony and many more are recorded, edited, distributed and archived by them. For huge events like the ones in auditorium the camera is taken from the Languages group. The camera not being a property of Student's Union has to be requisitioned and at times it is unavailable. Also, the technology it uses is outdated and is unable to provide high digital format.

Once a video has been shot, it goes to next stage of trans coding and encoding, both of which requires tape as well as the camera. Due to unavailability of camera and outdated technology quite often, they had to deliver unedited, distorted quality videos that too of only limited events. An alternative can be the Video lab's cameras. Video Lab presently has three cameras, two of which are handy cams and can’t even record sound in Lecture theatre properly and are extremely inefficient in auditorium and the third one being based upon very old technology is unable to provide even the standard form of output. All three are distributed at a very low, pixelated and distorted quality of video.

Plan
If the Student’s Union has a camera of it’s own then the Department of CCTV would be in a condition to cover major events without any problem and at the same time will be able to cover major mid-sem events like academic conferences and seminars.

The following are the details of the camera we propose :
