Note on Prof. Venkateswaran's Illness

Posted By Administration, Sunday, May 02, 2010

Prof. Venkateswaran (Diro to most of us) is in a Chennai Hospital with breathing difficulties. He was admitted on Wednesday 28th April after experiencing breathlessness at home that morning. He was put into the ICU for a day and then shifted to the ward on Thursday. His condition turned critical and from Friday onwards he is in the ICU again and from Saturday on the ventilator too.

Prof. Venkateswaran

With persistent breathing difficulty making his condition CRITICAL, he is in the ICU and ventilator for the next few weeks.

Chennai Chapter of BITSAA is providing help as and when required.

We need prayers from one and all for his speedy recovery.

We will keep you posted on status and developments periodically via this blog.

For the time being, please avoid phone-calls and emails to his family or friends inquiring about his heath.

Get well messages can be posted as comments to this blog. We will ensure that the messages get forwarded appropriately.

Prayers and best wishes for your full recovery so that you continue to be inspiration to many generations of BITS students.

I can see the outpour of love and affection through the entries made here by many BITSians whose lives were touched by you as the Director ("Diro"). The prestige and outreach of BITS has significantly grown, both domestically and internationally, under your tenure as "Diro".

My first interaction with you was during 1974-75 academic year, when you had taught "Complex Algebra" course as the professor of mathematics. Not only you were inspirational to me in teaching the 'complex number' system, but your way of intellectually challenging us all to 'think through complicated problems' has remained with me to-date. And for that I thank you, Sir!

I and many more generations of BITSians need to continue to benefit from your wisdom and affection; and so once again, we pray to God for your good health.
