2003 Event

It was a fun filled event this year at the Radisson in Chennai. The pleasure, of course, was in seeing faces that, after a long gap, immediately brought to mind a name and associated psenti memories. The biggest turnout was from the batch of 88 -- Chimpu, Baddy, Aru, Malai, Ramadorai, Venky (Lu!), Mouse. The oldest batch to make it was the Class of 1965 (Gopal), followed by the Class of 1972 (Chandrasekharan and Som Goyal). The guests of honour were Mrs and Dr S Venkateswaran. And the babe in the woods was from the Class of 1998 (Vishnu).

A couple of short films induced BITSian nostalgia. Srikanth (Chimpu, 88A1), the emcee, passed the mike around to all, and this sight ofseveral grown-ups introducing themselves like freshers before a ragging committee made for some light moments. A couple of BITSian achievers came up and spouted on their moments of glory. Mouse ('88) spoke about creating special effects for ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘X-Men’. Eli ('95) talked about being 1/8th of the founding team of a company in America that was later sold to Motorola, which made him a dollar millionaire!

Best of all, the food was spectacular, a range of just-right dishes topped off with jalebis for dessert. (What else -- a nod to the BITSian breakfast of yore!) So the folks who missed out, eat that!

2001 Kickoff Event

"The Chennai chapter of BITSAA met on 22/9/01 at a beach resort hotel near Chennai (Buena Vista at Neelankarai). Here's an this enthu news report from VC Srikanth (VCS,88A4...): Just a round-up of how the first-ever Chennai Chapter BITSAA meet went off. It made those present feel like a 20 year young student, transported to those yonder days of tranquil (sack !) & 'light'ness (committment- free !). The number of attendees crossed 150, with Alumni from the 1952 batch to the latest lot.

Apart from the expected junta, there were a few who just happened to be visiting Chennai and were glad to make it to the event. From Software gurus to Banking professionals to Marketing cats, it was a reflection of the success of BITSians in various fields. One could hear the animated discussions on the Bhawans (esp. MB !), the Audi movies, the chai of BC, D-lawn structure, Nutan nights....well, everything except the Acads !

Apart from meeting up with ol' pals, junta was also able to enjoy Fun activities and some good 'live' music. Thankfully, unlike the nototious ROCTAVES schedules, this music band was right on time. There were gifts galore, worth Rs 70,000 in all, and there was a big surprise for the tipplers as well. There was something special for the spouses of Alumni as well as the kids. It was not just about meeting ol' pals over a drink or getting away from work. It was a blessing to feel young, get drowned in the magic of Oasis.
