Gasps and
bear-hugs, nostalgia and bonhomie -- these and more were on tap at
the BITS Pilani Alumni Meet at Jade Garden on March 8. Vivek Marolli
of Y On Earth Interactive, a 1992 BITS graduate, produced a map of
the campus on the floor, topping it off with a replica of the clock
tower - that BITS's most famous landmark.
Wipro CEO Vivek
Paul and bestselling Penguin novelist Shashi Warrier spoke about
what Pilani had meant to them. Two more disparate symbols of
excellence would be hard to imagine: itself a tribute to the
all-round character of the BITS experience.
Conscious of the
value to the alma mater, the BITS Director, Dr S Venkateswaran, flew
in to address the alumni.
And if you wandered
through the crowd, you found company heads rubbing shoulders with
bright young software engineers; 1959 graduate Ajit Malkani telling
eager listeners about the ethos of Pilani; M&M Scorpio designer Ram
Kripa, a 1991 graduate, singing old songs; and any number of old
friends trying to compress decades into minutes. For a few hours,
Pilani lived -- right here in Mumbai!
Junta was enthued
to know when the next event was planned. But we are yet to get out
of hangover.
Wish you would've
been here.
