The scholarship was instituted by Birla International honor of S S Seshadri (BITS 1992) who died in a tragic accident a few years ago. The scholarship will pay full tuition for one year to a deserving third year student. The first award was announced in the first semester of 2002-03. Further details follow:

• The merit-cum-need based scholarship will be given to one student of the Birla Institute of Technology & Science

• All students of the University in their third year would be eligible for the scholarship

• The scholarship will be cover tuition fees for one year for the student

• The student will be chosen by a Scholarship Committee consisting of faculty at the Birla Institute of Technology & Science; an additional family member of S S Seshadri may be invited to join this committee

• The student will be required to demonstrate financial need; this information will be gathered and processed by the Scholarship Committee

• Academic performance in the previous year will be the primary criteria for selection of the student, once the student has demonstrated financial need
