We are really excited to inform you about our next bigsignature project - BITSConnect 2.0. BITSConnect 2.0, conceived during the BITSAA Global Meet 2011, will create amodel for multi-campus education in India. Telepresence and High-end VideoConferencing technologies will be deployed across 4 campuses (Pilani, Dubai,Goa and Hyderabad) which will take the Faculty, Student and Alumni Interactionto the next level and transform the learning experience at BITS Pilani.
BITS Pilaniaims to connect its 4 campuses for pedagogic and administrative reasons andaddress the key issue of faculty shortage. So, BITS Pilani Administration inalliance with BITSAA has conceptualized BITSConnect 2.0. Building on thesuccess of BITS Embryo project, BITSConnect 2.0 intends to actively engage withAlumni on coursework and research by facilitating subject experts to deliverlectures in all 4 campuses simultaneously and collaborate on research projects.
The Mission of BITSConnect2.0 is ‘to bridgethe geographical distance between the 4 BITS campuses, and also between alumniand the on-campus faculty and students’ by –
- enabling the faculty to deliver lectures to all 4BITS campuses simultaneously,
- allowing companies to recruit remotely,
- conducting virtual meetings with telepresencecapability,
- enabling alumni / experts to remotely deliverlectures, workshops or panel discussion to multiple campuses simultaneously,
- enabling alumni / experts to collaborate withfaculty and students on research through video conferencing, and
- hosting open courseware for the benefit of allstudents.
If yourecall, BITS Pilani with the installation of BITSConnect 1.0 became one of thefirst universities in India to provide Gigabit Internet, IP Telephony and VideoConferencing, and Wireless Access everywhere on campus in 2002. BITSConnect 2.0will be yet another milestone in the history of BITS Pilani and will set a newbenchmark on what BITS Alumni can achieve.
BITSConnect2.0 is a part of the larger 'Bridges to the Future' campaign, an ambitiousfundraiser that targets $1 million by the next BITSAA Global Meet. BITSAA hascommitted to raising $600,000 for the BITSConnect 2.0 project by June 2012 from within alumni ranks to fundthis project. No amount is too small to make this project a success. Our goal is 100% participation by the Alumni in this project and we needyou to contribute.
