|Imagine…you are in front of a 125-inch projection screen and four big plasma screens attending a live lecture by a Wharton Professor in a classroom at BITS-Pilani.|
Not an imagination anymore, it’s all reality! Next semester, that’s what BITS-Pilani students will experience - Thanks to BITSConnect 2.0.
BITS Pilani’s plans for creating a connected university are being made a reality by the BITSConnect 2.0 program. Under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor Dr. B.N. Jain, and with the help of its alumni, the university has created world class infrastructure to connect its four campuses.
Seamless virtual classrooms using cutting edge technology is what the students and faculty will experience very soon, thanks to BITSConnect 2.0. The mission of this program is to bridge the geographical distance between the four BITS campuses. It will allow not only the students and faculty from different campuses to interact among themselves but also the alumni and eminent lecturers from outside to connect with students.
In his interview with Knowledge@Wharton, Prof. Jain talks about connected universities and how these are much greater than the sum of their parts. According to him the program will be a model for education in India going forward; especially for higher education in India. And his hope is that with this program, we will set an example for other universities to follow.
BITS Connect 2.0 is not just for students. There’s something in it for everyone:
The 18-seat conference rooms equipped with tele presence equipment for administrative meetings and research group meetings
- Alumni can interact with students and professors in any of the campuses for collaborative projects, direct hiring to their firms and even attend lectures live or playback recorded lectures anytime
Companies who come for recruiting will have access to four times the talent from just one location
The web conferencing facility for faculty members will open up avenues of multimedia collaboration with anybody outside the campus
Video-recording and streaming services will help set up a learning management system or a virtual university in the future.
