Do you know what this is?
The graph is not the increase in Apple Inc Stock prices, or Chris Gayle’s batting scores in the IPL. This graph is a representation of the 'per-semester' tuition fee at BITS Pilani, our alma mater.
Yes, you read it right. After 2013 students will be paying a whopping Rs.157,000 for tuition per year. The actual expenses per year are beyond Rs.200,000.For more details, http://www.bitsadmission.com/fd/fdmain.htm#feeschedule
How much did you pay for your education at BITS?
A few 100s in mid 70s, ~15,000 INR in early 2000? Beyond mid 2000s, per semester fee in all campuses of BITS has drastically increased. The fee is expected to rise upto 15% every year!
The aforementioned chart gives you the details to showcase the fee hike. Given such high fee structure, it becomes extremely difficult for a student from a weak financial background to pay their fee and complete their education.

"I am Ashima Dharembra, a first year student pursuing Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at BITS, Pilani - Pilani campus. I am an active member of NSS, BITS Pilani. I am an avid reader and am a part of the Matrix club. I wish to pursue higher studies in the field of electronics after graduation. I have also been a scholar at school and this scholarship will go a long way in making me strive harder to achieve my goals. I am genuinely grateful for this scholarship as it eases a lot of the financial burden on my family. It feels even more special coming from a BITS alumnus. This scholarship is of great help to me and my family. I thank BITSAA and the donors for this kind gesture.”

Real stories, real need..
Here is one of the recent mails that we have received from a student requesting for financial help to complete her education at BITS.
"I am pursuing dual degree in MSc. Biological Sciences and B.E. Electrical and Electronics, maintaining a CGPA of 9.01. I am from a very weak financial background. My father earns around Rs. 2 lacs per annum and I have three younger siblings. My brother and sister are in first and second year of Chartered Accountant (CA) course, respectively. All of us require sufficient amount of money to cover our educational expenses. My father’s income which is the only source of income for the family is insufficient to support the education for all of us. Because of the weak financial background and very small source of income, its even more difficult for my father to invest in our education. I have three semesters left before the completion of my education and I do not have any financial support to pay my fee. Because of the investment in my studies, my siblings’ education is also affected. I therefore need some financial support to complete my education." - A current student
There are many such students in BITS, who are meritorious, talented and deserving but come from a weak financial back ground. Not being able to pay their fee should not be the reason for them to drop out from completing their BITS education.
