BITSAA is happy to announce the release of its annual report for the year 2012.
We now have 21,500 members in the Global BITSAA Alumni Directory – an increment of almost 3,000 members in the last year. This is a phenomenal network of BITS alumni for the collective benefit. BITSAA’s growing numbers, influence, and its committed army of volunteers have helped us remain involved in a wide range of activities aimed at enhancing the quality of BITS education, its faculty, its infrastructure, its student body, the affordability of BITS education to the economically disadvantaged, and ultimately the BITS, Pilani brand. The coffee-table book styled Annual Report for 2012 (available for online reading & download at http://reports.bitsaa.org) highlights some of these activities from the past year.
The year 2012 has been quite momentous under the able leadership of our Chairman - Mr Raju Reddy('76-'81). Allow me to give you a quick snapshot.
Under the Global Bridges to the Future Fundraising campaign we have already raised close to USD 900,000 and are well within the reach of the USD 1M target. This is a phenomenal achievement considering that it took us about a decade to raise a similar number prior to the campaign. None of this would have been possible without the support we got from all of you. Thank you for that.
BITS Connect 2.0 project, which has been repeatedly touted as the 'Model of higher education in India' by various media outlets, was successfully launched connecting all the Indian campuses in Phase I. BITS Pilani is the first educational institution to have implemented a Telepresence infrastructure at such a large scale. The infrastructure is already in full use as we speak with as many as 14 courses being run last semester. BITSConnect 2.0 turned out to be a great PR exercise for BITS as well, getting as many as ~150 odd media impressions - many of those in Cat-A dailies like the Times of India, The Hindu and The Pioneer.
BITSAA doled out various scholarships to meritorious BITS students. Thanks to our generous donors, many new scholarships were also set up. Our second biggest initiative from last year, BITS Spark has taken a life of its own - mentoring & helping young BITSians in their entrepreneurial journeys.
Behind the scenes, our volunteers are tirelessly working on a plethora of activities - helping students with their graduate application costs, funding student travel to international conferences and sponsoring many innovative student projects. Your contributions are the life blood to our Alumni Association and will enable us to help BITSians who need it the most. So, please donate generously.
Let me close with a request : The whole BITSian community is gearing up for the next BGM ( BITSAA Global Meet ) slated to happen on Jan 3-5, 2014 at Hyderabad. - Don't forget to register! Please encourage all your friends – batch-mates, seniors, juniors, groupies, wingies - to pitch in with BITSAA. There is something in it for everyone. I assure you it will be nostalgic to the core & extremely satisfying to you to see your alma-mater and your fellow alumni benefit with your help!
Many thanks to the various BITSAA teams involved in getting it to shape. We realize that the report is coming a tad too late . But like a good bottle of wine, it's just got better with time! So go ahead and go through the BITSAA Annual Report 2012 at http://reports.bitsaa.org. Keep your feedback coming in.
Here's wishing you a happy BITSians' Day and see you at BGM 2014.
With best wishes, Rohit Koul ('02-'06) CEO, BITSAA International, (On behalf of BITSAA International Board of Trustees)
