With a little over 6 weeks to go until BGM 2014 kicks off, here’s looking back at some projects and initiatives that garnered enthusiastic alumni support since our last meet in 2011:
BITSAA Global Meet 2011 was an impetus to help our Alma Mater realize the lofty Mission 2012-Vision 2020 goals, enable us as alumni to engage in projects towards enriching and empowering students, faculty, alumni and the community. For the first time, all chapters were working together for one common goal. From Silicon Valley to Singapore, New Zealand to Noida - everyone was in it together. It really felt like BITSAA had finally arrived.
Bridges to the Future fundraising campaign - We promised to raise $1M to support various BITSAA initiatives such as AtmaNirbhara, BITSConnect, Faculty and Students Enrichment etc. And we did it!.
- Working towards student enrichment, BITSAA Funded Scholarships Team implemented over 20 grantsincluding Travel scholarship, Graduate App scholarship, Project scholarship, Paper publication assistance,"Zero Percent Loan" scholarship etc. for Students and Faculty of BITS. So far 100+ students benefited from these scholarships. So far, your generosity has helped us fund 5 innovative student projects - ACYUT, Karters, IFOR, Baja SAE, Teevra.
- A Chair Professor at BITS aims to promote excellence and leadership in teaching, research and innovation in a discipline of donor's choice and facilitate deeper interaction between practising engineers/scientists and BITS faculty. To this extent, 2 Chair Professorships initiated by the batch of 1981 and the batch of 1988 respectively, have been named since BGM 2011.
- Conceived during BGM 2011, BITSConnect2.0 project, which has been repeatedly touted as the 'Model of higher education in India' by various media outlets, was successfully launched connecting all the Indian campuses in Phase I. BITS Pilani is the first educational institution to have implemented a Telepresence infrastructure at such a large scale. The infrastructure is already in full use as we speak with as many as 14 courses being run last semester. BC2.0 turned out to be a great PR exercise for BITS as well, getting as many as 150 odd media impressions - many of those in Cat-A dailies like the Times of India, The Hindu and The Pioneer
- Ever wonder how our extended family- the Nagarji's and the Pappu's at Pilani, the mess workers and the chowki jis are doing? The mission of the extraordinaryProject AtmaNirbhara is to have a community resource centre for rural education and employability. The recently inaugurated Pilani Resource Center(PRC), the first big project of the BITS Alumni Trust in the field, will continue to serve rural communities of Pilani, Jherli, Raila, Khedia, Harinagar etc. PRC is one of the biggest initiatives of AtmaNirbhara.
BGM 2011 paved way for historical projects and a many benefited from them. Donate your gifts generously to BGM 2014 and take the BITS Brand to the next level (donation link). The upcoming game changer, BGM 2014, will be a launchpad for many other initiatives like Career Center, BITS-AMP, Research & Entrepreneurship, Industry Connect which will enrich and empower students, faculty, alumni and the community of BITS.
We invite you to come and be part of an iconic meet!
