How BITSians' Day Revived A Chapter

Dear BITSian,

BITSians’ Day last year, a huge success that it was, witnessed the revival of many chapters and forged a number of new connections, where they did not exist before. One such story belongs to the Pune chapter, which came to life and limelight as a result of BITSians’ Day 2013.

We sit for a chat with Amey Limaye, an alumnus of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. Amey joined BITSAA in the September of 2013 as a Team Leader, in the Chapter Relations Team.

Can you give us a brief background about the Pune Chapter?

Pune Chapter, prior to BITSians’ Day last year, consisted of alumni from the batches of 60s, 70s and 80s. They used to have their regular meet ups, but were never put up on show. Mr. Sukhdev Ganotra (1970, BITSAA Pune chapter head) has been continuously working on keeping the BITSians in touch through meet ups for a few years with the help of Chhavi Adtani. After the last years BITSians’ day, the younger generation batches started to join in. Currently we have a filtered database which has more than 400 BITSians residing in Pune.

What change did BITSians Day 2013 bring about?

50 BITSians met last year at the Phoenix Mall for celebrating the occasion. BITSians from 1960 to 2009 batches joined the meet, making it a truly memorable one. More than 100 BITSians registered themselves and became aware of BITSAA presence in Pune. We started the Facebook page for BITSians to meet up and it has now officially become the BITSAA Pune page with more than 150 members from the younger generations. It was a great meeting as we had people joining in from all the four campuses.

How lively has the chapter been since then?

We have had 3 meets after BITSians day last year. Recent one was at a beautiful resort in Lavasa, thanks to Mr Satish Kamat, BITSian, who is one of the directors of Lavasa.

What is your message to BITSAA chapters in different cities?

We have BITSians in many of the tier 2 cities like Nagpur, Indore, Udaipur, Jaipur and so on who have meet ups amongst themselves. I would like to advise them to publicize their meet ups so that more BITSians come to know about the BITSAA presence in their cities. Also, I would like to encourage more BITSians to join in on BITSians day, and make the best of being a BITSian.

Your plans for this year's BITSians day?

We are definitely going to meet this year too in Pune. We are currently in the process finalizing the venue, we will make it public soon!

Are you aware of a BITSAA Chapter in your city? This BITSians day is the perfect opportunity to grow active in your BITSAA Chapter. Meet and connect with fellow BITSians, keep the BITSian in you alive.Write to us at, and we will connect you to with your chapter!
