Tara Chand Goel (5th December
1941 6th July 2008), the first and incumbent
director of BITS Goa passed away after a prolonged illness. He was
suffering from Cancer.
A note in his memory was written by the students of BITS Goa.
As we write this, we the students of BITS-Goa, are still trying hard
to recover from the turmoil caused by our Director Prof.T.C.Goels
recent demise. Though we did not receive much of his physics
lectures, we had our Sir as a guardian outside our homes. Goel Sir
has been the pioneer in designing our campus, right from its
construction to our courses to our future. When one had a good idea
for the welfare of the students, it was extremely easy to prepare
what one had to say and walk into his office to have a smooth
conversation about it. Thats how easy it was. No rigmarole, no
formalities, extremely accessible. Any celebration, be it cultural,
academic, it starts with him and ends with him. He has involved
himself in driving almost every miniscule thing in this campus.
There have been a lot of crises in our campus since the last four
years, but he has handled them very efficiently and patiently. He is
one who likes to keep the students in the loop for even an event,
which doesnt concern the students. A very humane person, whose
sense of practicality is so admirable that he can predict the
consequences of a step better than anyone else. He was a brave,
conscience-fearing and confident person who had the energy to keep
up his duties despite severe illness. He was always there to
encourage students to pursue their wishes and interests and support
any of their constructive initiatives. We could just go on and on.
May his soul rest in peace. We love you, Sir !
