Days did change and many Indians are now replacing the concomitant love for the game of Cricket with other sports such as Football, Formula-One, and Tennis etc. Samir Bajaj, of 1988 batch has taken the requisite mission of promoting the National Game of India, called Bramhapuri Hockey Development Initiative. He organized a State Level Hockey Tournament on 24 January 2009 which was inaugurated by Bollywood ambassador of Indian Hockey, Sunil Shetty. Shilpa Shukla (Actor, Hockey Movie Chak De) and Mr Ranjan Negi (Former Goalkeeper, Indian Hockey Team) were also present.
Samir started this initiative to recognize the talent and support it through Hockey Development Programs wherein young boys & girls can nurture their ability of the sport in an atmosphere away from economic drudgery. The initiative would last long spurring more kids to play Hockey and motivating parents.
After healthy discussions with Shri RR Patil, then Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Secretary, Union Sports Ministry and Director General, Sports Authority of India - Bajaj has now reached a stage where he along with Dhanraj Pillay will be presenting their case to Shri MS Gill, Union Sports Minister on 15th February 2009.
