SJSU (San Jose State University) recognized Jayan Ramankutty (BITS ID No: 75F04480) as a distinguished alumnus at the Engineering banquet, which was held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose in April 2009. About 500 guests participated including some key decision makers from premier companies in the Bay Area.

The criterion for selecting the candidate was based on professional achievements as well as recognizable community and charitable services. At the banquet, Jayan was awarded a plaque and was given 3 minutes for an acceptance speech. A copy of the plaque will permanently hang on the 'Wall of Fame' in SJSU.

Subsequently, he was invited by the Dean to deliver the keynote speech to the graduating class of 2009 at the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering. The theme for his speech was about 'Aiming high but living within one's means.

Recently, when Professor Mittal was in the Bay Area with the Robotic Team, Jayan arranged a meeting between with students and faculty of the Charles W. David College of Engineering. SJSU showed keen interest in an ongoing engagement with BITS, which materialized only with the Jayan’s magic.
