Team TEEVRA - the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) team, BITS-Pilani became the second Indian team ever to participate in the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) – 2010 held in California, USA. The team received a very warm welcome from the organizers, the hosts at California State University, Northridge and the judges from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Battling through many difficulties related to fabrication of the vehicle within the specified time period, management of finances for the project and transportation of the vehicle to the US, the team was proud to finally make it to the competition with their heads held high. The hosts, ASME officials and all other teams appreciated the efforts put in to get international recognition for the project. The team was responsible for developing the project through all stages of the competition - design, analysis, marketing, publicity, administration and logistics.

Team Teevra performed exceptionally well, securing 1st place in the Analysis Sub-Category and 8th place in the Overall Design Category. The team also participated successfully in the Speed Endurance Event by running their vehicle non-stop for 2.5 hours to the completion of the event – proving unmatched reliability of the vehicle.

As a new participant in the competition, contending with teams that had prior experience and producing splendid results is indeed a great achievement for Team Teevra!

The Team participated in the following events:

Design Event: The event was held on 23rd April, 2010. Teams presented their designs and static and safety inspections were done. Team Teevra scored well in both areas and were short-listed for the final rounds. The vehicle design was appreciated by the judges, particularly the unique singe tube frame bended to optimize length and height of the vehicle, the safety features and innovations of the drive train, cushion effect of the frame and the adjustable rollover bar.

The vehicle design by Team Teevra for this competition is the fastest human powered vehicle in India. It is now working on a new design with an aim to make it the fastest vehicle entry into the competition.

Our heartiest congratulations to Team Teevra and to all who helped them make it a huge success!

Way to go! It is indeed heartening to see that BITS has come a long way over the years. The entrepreneurial streak is alive and shining. Quite obviously each one of the members of Team Teevra can be proud - looking back, I am sure all the frustrations and tribulations that they have been through would now seem worth it.
