22 year old Ishan Mata has made us proud. He topped the physics examination at the prestigious Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2010 held jointly by the IITs and IISc, Bangalore. Amongst 5578 other students who also appeared for the exam, Ishan scored
77.6% marks and emerged victorious. He has also topped the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) 2010 required for PhD admissions at institutions such as IISc, Bangalore, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Inter University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune. He scored a phenomenal 99.98 percentile in this exam.
Ishan is a final year dual degree student pursuing his MSc (Hons) Physics and MSc (Hons)Mathematics. Though Ishan was admitted to the BE(Hons) Electrical & Electronics Engineering discipline he switched to this dual degree due to his immense interest in Physics. He is now anticipating interview calls from several renowned institutions in India. Ishan desires to pursue his PhD in Theoretical Physics. Ishan explains how his father a veterinary doctor has guided him throughout his school days. His interest in Physics was nurtured well by both his parents and the BITS faculty.
