Mr.GK Pillai, of the 1973 batch (Electrical & Electronics) of BITS, Pilani (Rajasthan) was instrumental in the revival of Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) Ranchi as its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). Prior to his joining HEC, he was the chief executive at India-US joint venture companies like Fisher Sanmar, Tyco Sanmar and was also associated with Instrumentation Ltd, Palakkad (Kerala), for a period. A company which was running into losses for the past five years before he took over had under his dynamic leadership reported net profits for the last three years. In an interview to the Financial Express he talked explicitly about the various strategies he had planned in a major overhaul to bring the company back on track.

“The short-term plans for the company is to grow its business and at the same time, increase its profitability. This growth and profitability will come from the existing range of products and services. However, in the medium term, we would like to grow the company’s business by means of various diversification plans and entering into new segments like defence, railways, nuclear, etc” says Mr Pillai.

We wish him the very best for his endeavors.
