Gandhiji’s birthday saw the end to a successful and inspiring event conducted on the Pilani campus, for mess workers and the campus security staff. ‘Joyfest’, one of the first events of its kind, was organized by Nirmaan, a student organization on the Pilani campus, in association with the Student’s Union, BITS, Pilani. The fest, which ran from the Sep. 26 to Oct. 2 was part of the nation-wide initiative to celebrate the “Joy of Living Week”.
Events over the course of the week included ‘Bachao’- an aggressive paper campaign conducted to motivate people to conserve water and electricity and prevent food wastage and a newspaper collection drive. And in perhaps the most inspiring of all, a ‘Dinner of Joy’ for the mess workers and security staff, served and organized by an enthusiastic throng of 1200 BITSian student volunteers. The Music Club, BITS, Pilani also played their part in the festive event, by performing exclusively for the children of ‘Gyan Bodh’, a Nirmaan initiative to conduct tuitions for underprivileged children. Needless to say, the event was a huge success - a true celebration of the joy of giving.
