At
a ceremony at Sankara Netralaya on Jul 23, 2011, an endowment was created in Vice
Chancellor Dr S Venkateswaran's name. The endowment was set up under
a Memorandum of Understanding between Missouri University and Sankara
Netralaya, each contributing $100,000 towards the fund. The MoU
signed facilitates teaching, research and student/faculty exchange
between Sankara Nethralaya and MU under the endowment so created.
Guests and speakers
included our late Diro's brother Dr Chandrasekar who spoke eloquently
on the life and virtues of Dr Venkateswaran; Dr S Krishnakumar who
elaborated on the progress of nanotechnology research at SN, Prof
Robert Churchill, Dean, and Dr Kattesh Katti and Dr Raghuraman Kannan
from MU on the University as well as the background of the
collaboration between SN and MU. Vice Counsel of US Embassy in
Chennai, Michelle Zjhra, herself a PhD in the bio sciences and a
principal investigator on research projects, was the Chief Guest and
she stressed the deepening bilateral relations between India and the
USA.
The ceremony was followed by a symposium on "Applications of Nanotechnology in Health Care” with scientific presentations by top notch scientists in the field of nanotechnology from India as well as from abroad.
