Everyone remembers the spellbinding game of Jeopardy! played by Watson, an artificial intelligence computer system capable of deciphering nuances in languages developed by IBM. In three episodes telecast from Feb 12-4, 2011, Watson won over reigning Jeopardy! champions consistently outperforming them.
As IBM explores the applications of such a powerful computer, it has chosen BITSian Manoj Saxena ('82, MMS, Pilani) as the General Manager of the Watson Solutions program. Prior to joining IBM, Manoj founded two successful software companies: Exterprise, a business process collaboration company; and Webify, an industry-specific SOA solutions company. Manoj joined IBM in August 2006 through IBM’s acquisition of Webify, which he led as its chief executive officer. Saxena has extensive experience and knowledge of healthcare, an area in which Watson's services are highly anticipated.
Saxena says, "It is truly an honor to lead an initiative that has IBM founder's name on it and one that will transform major industries and indeed parts of IT industry." We are all proud of you, Mr Saxena, and wish you the best as you blaze a new trail ahead of you.
