Every year a number of BITSians get selected for esteemed international conferences, internships, fellowships, summits, etc. Last year, BITSAA received 53 funding requests citing travel alone from BITSians across the 4 campuses. Out of all the requests received, 37 were conferences, 14 for internships abroad and 2 for global summits. BITSAA currently supports students through full travel grants, in collaboration with BITS in some cases, BITSAA Miles Program and through 0% loans.

The Anurag Jain 0% Loan Fund
Anurag JainAnurag Jain, ('88-'92, EEE, Pilani) came to know of the huge demand-supply gap between the number of funding requests from students and scholarship recipients (about 10%) from CEO Aalap Tripathy (’04-08) and Fundraising VP Arun Ashokan (’96-’00). He immediately made an unsolicited offer to create a Travel loan fund with $10,000 seed money now named the "Anurag Jain 0% Loan Fund”.  Scholarships Team led by Arun SK and Hari Kishore worked diligently to create a proposal to outline how these funds will be utilized.

Anurag Jain 0% Loan Fund will be used to provide zero interest loans to worthy students for internship related international travel, for travel and attendance costs for international conferences, competitions and seminars, for US graduate program application costs and for graduate studies abroad.

About Anurag Jain:
Anurag Jain until recently led the Dell Services Delivery unit, a global team of more than 18,000 employees who deliver infrastructure services, applications and business process solutions, and managed services to Dell customers around the world, as its Executive Vice President.

Before Dell,  he led the legacy Perot Systems (now Dell) Applications, Business Process Solutions, Financial Services and Insurance organizations, where he directed global operations and sales to enhance growth and business results. He also served as managing director of the company's Asia Pacific region. He also previously founded highly successful, large-scale, India-based outsourcing businesses. He co-founded and served as head of operations for Brigade Corporation, a customer support company with employees across centers in the U.S., Europe, and India. He then founded Vision Healthsource, a business focused on providing outsourcing services to healthcare providers and payers that was acquired by Perot Systems in 2003.

Anurag serves on the board of the National Skills Development Corporation, a first-of-its-kind public-private partnership in India, and is Chairman of the Skill Development Forum for the Federation of  Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He holds an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Anurag has been a continuous donor to BITS Pilani – recently having made a generous contribution to BITSAA, its first Global Meet and to Former Vice Chancellor Prof. L K Maheshwari’s Foundation.

Remarks and accolades from BITSAA’s Leaders
Raju ReddyRaju Reddy – President & Chairman of BITSAA International
Anurag, Thanks a ton for your enthusiastic support and an unsolicited offer like this says a lot about your generosity.
SP KothariSP Kothari – Chairman Emeritus of BITSAA International
Anurag, You have come through again with your generosity! Thank you for your willingness to support student travel requests with your funds.

Anurag Jain joins the list of bighearted BITSians who have come forward and donated funds to help fellow BITSians to realize their dreams. Following Anurag’s donation, BITSAA’s Travel Fund pool now stands at $17,000. BITSAA will be able to support about 15-17 students through the Travel Loans Program (about 20% of anticipated demand). Is this all that we can do for our fellow BITSians aspiring to follow their passions and achieve big in life?

BITSAA’s 0% loan program is an ambitious initiative to make every BITSian’s educational dreams come true. It is a peer-peer lending program where you can lend funds at 0% interest to another BITSian for educational purposes. You as the lender will choose the type of loan to support and the criteria to select borrowers - you can either donate money that will be used to administer a loan program (all donations are tax deductible) or lend money that will be returned to you after it is repaid by the borrower. Donors can setup loans named after them that can stay in perpetuity. The lender/donor can also serve as a mentor to the borrower and connect with them through the BITSAA portal. BITSAA will update the lender/donor on the educational progress of the borrower.
