Cypress Semiconductors and BITS Pilani announced an agreement on April 15, under which Cypress will be donating the PSoC lab at BITS with the new PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 development kits and software. In addition to these, Cypress will also be providing the PSoC creator software.
The PSoC lab was first initiated in 2009 at BITS Pilani along with Hyderabad and Dubai campuses with support from Cypress. The lab's main purpose is to expose students to the PSoC platform, a flexible family of devices with programmable analog and digital blocks integrated with a microcontroller. Yearly, hands-on training sessions with faculty and students are also provided by Cypress. Many students engaged in wireless, medical and remote sensing projects design their applications based on the PSoC platform making it pivotal in providing hands-on experience for creating solutions for embedded systems.
“Our main goal is to excite students about new technologies and consequently increase the number of talented engineers from India,” said Karthikeyan Mahalingam, India Manager of Cypress University Alliance. “The PSoC lab offers this, allowing students to innovate and work on high-tech projects with the right training.”
“The lab will add an extra dimension to the student learning experience,” said Dr. S.Gurunarayan, Dean, Admissions & Faculty Division II of BITS, Pilani. “We’re hoping it will result in a unique learning platform where students receive hands-on experience in developing applications which they can apply to solving real-world challenges.”
