Born on 7th January 1949, Baba Kalyani is an Engineering Graduate from BITS, Pilani (66-71), and post graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. He also holds an honorary doctorate from Symbiosis International University. Baba Kalyani is the Chairman of the Kalyani Group, a 2.4 Billion USD conglomerate whose flagship company is Bharat Forge, the world's second-largest forgings manufacturer. He is ranked by Forbes as one of the 50 richest Indians and under 500 richest people all over the world. Kalyani group is now expanding into energy, transportation and marine sectors. 

 Kalyani Group’s business interests are in Specialty Steel, Forgings, Auto Components, Infrastruture and Specialty chemicals. With a global workforce of over 10,000 employees, the group comprises companies that include Bharat Forge Limited, Kalyani Steels Ltd, Kalyani Carpenter Special Steels Ltd, Automotive Axles Ltd, Kalyani Lemmerz Ltd, BF Utilities, Hikal Ltd, CDP Bharat Forge GmbH, Germany, Bharat Forge Aluminiumtechnik GmbH, Germany, Bharat Forge America, Inc, USA, Bharat Forge Kilsta AB, Sweden, Bharat Forge Scottish Stampings Ltd and FAW Bharat Forge (Changchun) Co. He has been conferred. He is Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Indore; Chairman, Board of Governors, SGGS College of Engineering & Technology, Nanded; Vice President, Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture; Member, India Education Initiative; Member, Governing Board, National Institute of Bank Management; Member, Executive Committee, Indo German Chamber of Commerce; Member, Indo-US CEOs Forum; Member, Robert Bosch Advisory Committee Member, India Advisory Committee, World Economic Forum, Switzerland; and Member, Commonwealth Business Council, UK and India-US CEO’s Forum. He is a Fellow of The Indian National Academy of Engineering.Mr. Kalyani is the Founder Chairman of Pratham Pune Education Foundation, an NGO that is engaged in providing primary education to children belonging to under privileged sections of the local community. Since its inception in 2000, Pratham Pune has made a difference in the lives of over 100,000 children in Pune society. Mr. Kalyani is also steering a unique initiative to empower rural youth at a Taluka in Pune district by providing free technical and vocational training at a government Industrial Training Institute [ITI] that is being run as a Public-Private partnership. The pioneering model is being replicated in other parts of the country. Mr. Kalyani also supports various other NGOs and charitable institutes engaged in education and in uplifting quality of lives of the disadvantaged and needy.

In pursuance of his vision to contribute to a clean and emission free environment, Mr. Kalyani has set up a new venture Kenersys Limited to manufacture various energy efficient wind turbines for domestic and international markets. The company also has its own wind turbines in Maharashtra which generate "green energy" for the group's manufacturing operations. Mr. Kalyani is also engaged in developing solar energy equipment that would contribute in further strengthening his group's footprint in the non conventional energy sector. In a joint venture with KPIT Cummins, Bharat Forge is developing a unique hybrid solution that would contribute in the country being able to meet its vehicular emission targets.
