There is no denying that everyone somewhere down the line has nurtured dreams of becoming the next Christopher Nolan or Quentin Tarantino. Or for the same matter, notch up top acting jobs and be parallel to all the Brad Pitts and Di Caprios. Well, students of BITS-Pilani, now get a chance to prove their worth via the new videography lab inaugurated last semester to stand as a lone body concerned with all video productions related to campus activities. This new lab boasts of a small studio added to its glitter by a changing room, a make-up room, an editing room as well as a store room. Equipped with the latest technologies, it comprises of a camcorder and a SLR for all purposes of video recording and clicking of photos. Apart from this, the studio consists of background/studio lights for differential lighting and a monitor for on-spot display of what is being recorded.Inaugurated by the director of BITS-Pilani, Prof. G. Raghurama, this lab aims to promote film-making as well as handle all the campus on goings that need to be captured on a frame. Supported by a course called Short Film Making and Video Production, that is offered as an elective to BITSians from their second year, the credits for the lab solely goes to Dr. Geetha B., a member of the languages group who also monitors the Short Film Making course and has been instrumental in promoting film making as a part and parcel of the heavy technical curriculum of BITS-Pilani.The poster here is the official poster of Dealing Blind, a short film that I and my group made as a part of the course Short Film Making and Video Production. It was shot totally inside the lab using the new SLR.From a third person view, this venture undertaken by BITS-Pilani is worthy of a notable mention as it grazes a totally different field. BITS-Pilani, by its reputation induces an idea of technical education into the minds of many, but this measure proves the versatility of and diversification of the BITSian crowd that goes a long way in proving, that we can be a jack of all trades.
