Nvidia’s nForce 680i and BITS

Wondering what is the connection is?  BITS alumnus, Sridhar Nanda and his colleague Sridhar Manthani are Directors of Nvidia’s Bangalore facility. After working with Intel for several years, the duo joined Nvidia in 2004 as first employees at Bangalore site and was entrusted with the job of setting up a full fledged R&D centre there. Currently they are powering NVidia’s latest high-end motherboards meant purely for enthusiast PC users and gamers – nForce 680i.  The chips were completely designed in the Bangalore labs including writing of the BIOS.

Explaining the team development part, Nanda said, "While building the team we handpicked the best and the brightest talent from the country and took them through various training and mentorship procedures and taught them about not just generic chipsets but also about Nvidia specific things from different domains such as graphics, motherboards, etc." "It took around 6 months for the centre to get fully functional and get engaged in projects. The centre focuses primarily on two areas - motherboard chipsets and graphic chipsets for handheld devices."

Dakshin Dhruv 2006

After climbing the Mt. Everest in 2004, Bits alum Raj Kumar and his team members from the Indian Navy are now ready to take on another extreme challenge as the next major adventure sport activity - Ski traverse to the South Pole during December  2006 – January 2007 - aka Dakshin Dhruv 2006.  It would indeed be a daunting expedition and may well achieve records heralding India, the Indian Navy and BITS Pilani into the forefronts of the adventure world. Personally for Raj, he will end up reaching two poles of the three in the world (North Pole, South Pole and Mt Everest which is considered the Third Pole). Sandpaper team received final communication from Raj’s team on December 3 2006 – they were at Punta Arenas (Chile) undertaking all requisite formalities and approvals to enter the remote continent of Antarctica. Hand in hand, they were preparing hard on fitness and acclimatizing themselves to face the challenges of the weather and terrain. On behalf of the BITSAA sandpaper team and entire BITS alumni population we send you our best wishes and salute your spirit of adventure.  If you would like to send your good wishes and blessings to the team feel free to send them on these mail ids rajkumar267@yahoo.co.in or yadavraz@rediffmail.com. Your good wishes and messages would mean a lot to the team!

Laccha sessions at Texas A&M

25 BITSians at Texas A&M University got together for a laccha party. Here are some photos of the event. Needless to say they had a great time syncing up and sharing fun anecdotes.

BITSian Production – Chath – A Roof without Walls

Tirthankar Das (86A4) alumnus produced and co-directed the movie “Chath – A Roof without walls”. It was launched on December 9 at Movie City Theaters. The screening received an overwhelming response from audience that included filmmakers, actors, actresses, models, producers, press, friends and well-wishers. The film is scheduled for January 19th press release in Manhattan .

So what is Chath all about?

In recent years the number of homeless New Yorkers residing in shelters has reached the highest point in New York State 's history and this includes more than 12000 children in New York City shelters. Three-fourths of the population suffers from chronic mental illness. Chath is inspired by true stories of these homeless people in America . The dramatic facet of Chath delves into the lives of 3 homeless Indians in USA . The movie illustrates the fact that homelessness is more of an emotional and mental phenomena rather than an economic condition. Please visit the official website of Chath - www.chaththefilm.com and leave your feedback. If you would like to know more, visit the Chath on google video and rate it.
