About Team IFOR
Team IFOR (Intelligent Flying object for Reconnaissance) was founded in the year 2010 by Saurabh Ladha
, at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus along with seven other Undergraduates from various departments. The Team successfully developed UAE’s first completely autonomous Unmanned Aerial Robot and represented the United Arab Emirates at the 21st
Edition of the International Aerial
Robotics Competition (IARC), held in North Dakota, USA. The team Ranked 1st
at the competition, defeating top US- universities, like University of Michigan, Embry Riddle Aeronautical, Georgia Institute of Technology, etc.
Team IFOR Progress
Each year the team has made a significant technological leap in the field of aerial robotics which is on-par with top University teams from around the world. Specifically the robot can: map, and navigate unknown indoor environments with obstacles, perceive it’s surrounding through Vision algorithms like modified-SURF,
perform autonomous stabilization and navigation at 1000kHz, GPS way point navigation, intelligent cargo delivery, etc.
The team is now in pursuit of the “Drones Challenge of AED 1 Million (US$ 270,000/-)” given by Dubai Government, which requires teams to present a prototype of a aerial robot that can perform cargo delivery based on GPS navigation. The team already has surpassed this level of complexity and is confident to develop a indigenous robot, with 4 years of prior Robotics experience.
Teams Present funding Need
In order to build the prototype, the team needs US$ 5,000/-
to design and fabricate an entirely new quad-rotor platform and cannot use the existing Commercial Off-The Shelf (COTS) Asctec Pelican
based platform. The team will use all existing electronics and sensor suite on the new platform – so that it meets the requirements of the Dubai Government Competition.
Teams Funding deadline
In order to make the prototype before the competition, the team needs the above funds by March 31st, 2014
